You must have heard about the Greyhound murder.
I feel for the victim who did even know what hit him.
Must have been the worst feeling ever.
Read more about it here and here.
This incident does not change my view of the Greyhound bus company.
GREYHOUND MURDER ENDS HERE. DON’T CONTINUE READING ON IF YOU ARE SEARCHING FOR THE MURDER.
Security and trust are truly lacking.
I know that the Greyhound service in USA and Canada are not thoroughly related - from the fact that my compensation voucher - I think it was for a $15 USA Greyhound discount due to my unfortunate incident, and was not applicable for their Canadian counterpart services.
What happened to me on that fateful (and foolish) night was that I was travelling from Las Vegas to San Francisco and decidedly refused to take the plane, and experience taking the bus.
Hmm. Bad mistake. Oh well, I learnt things the hard way.
Please don’t flame me, but I always had the urge to protect my belongings in the Greyhound terminal, but i never felt to do so when in airports.
One reason was that my friend and I stood out for being the only Asians most of the time, and our dressing and belongings made us feel out of place. With my Samsonite, Ralph Lauren and Gucci luggage - it was hard not to be stared at by the sea of fake product users.
This was my third day into a 3 week holiday of the US and Canada.
I stupidly placed USD500 into the luggage that was going to be in the bottom luggage compartment out of sight. You know, my rationale was that if I got robbed at knife-point, at least i’ll have money left in my luggage. God, next time just use a credit card and save the cash.
To cut the story short, I lost USD500 cash, a Trussardi pouch, a GPS module, a Canon camera charger gone - caused me to lose out on taking photos for the last week, a pair of contact lens(he/she truly is desperate), a newly-bought limited-edition Coach bag, as well as a new Samsung YP-T10 that I was asked to review upon.
Damage: Around USD1000.
I just have to be thankful he/she did not cart my entire Samsonite luggage off. (In case you were wondering, I had my Ralph Lauren and Gucci with me as I felt that they were safer with me around them - I was right!)
It might have been an inside job or as I read about a month after my incident that there were cases of midgets getting into the luggage holds to carry out such heinous jobs.
I was sad for the next 2 days. Eating only bread as I had no appetite. Art galleries definitely helped to perk me up =))
I was tempted to swipe my credit on a breath-taking Chagall painting around USD4k. Hmm. Then I remembered my disaster. No thanks to it.
I think i might be going on too much.
Anyways, I got to highlight that Greyhound’s email service support is non-existent.
They replied me like weeks after I sent out my email to claim for compensation (currently, it’s only a crappy USD15 for a USD1000 loss) as the lady who attended to me begrudgingly said that the compensation cheque would be sent to my Singapore address in about 1 week’s time. Now it’s about 7 months overdue.
And to add to that, their replies were all one-liners.
And mostly were things that were truly unhelpful - like “Go back to the terminal where you lodged your complaint”. The End. No names given, no nothing. WHAT??
Everytime, replies would be a generically-useless one-liner that came weeks after I sent my email.
Seriously, I have to say this.
FUCK YOU GREYHOUND. They have to be the first company to really piss the fuck outta me big time.
And this was when I emphasized the fact that I was a foreigner, back in Singapore.
Their totally unhelpful and nonchalant support is what makes me tell my friends to boycott Greyhound and it’s totally worth it to pay for the higher (and faster) (and somewhat less risky) plane service.
If Greyhound wanted to rectify my view of them, they would contact me now.
I have all the supporting documents and incriminating photos they need. Gosh. I’m so glad I ranted.

As for this ad they are pulling since up late 2007.
They should have torn it down long time ago, as we have heard of bus consumer rage pertaining to Greyhound - all the time.
But my holiday in the US was not marred at all, due to the fact that i encountered so many amazing and lovely and friendly people =))
I can’t say the so much the same for Canada though, people hardly smiled - I think it could be due to the cold winter atmosphere. And it did not help that there was a racist bitch at a Adidas store that got me seething with anger. But that’s another story altogether..
P.S. I changed my layout as I was bored of the previous layout =D
